Don’t Install a New Garage Door:  Leave This One for the Pro’s

Replacing and/or installing a new garage door can be dangerous.  Why? The springs are delicate and every year there are countless stories of people who have been seriously injured, or killed trying to repair, or install a garage door as a do-it-yourself project.  The springs carry a serious load per square inch and if you do not know what you are doing you can be seriously, or fatally injured. Leave replacement to a professional door installer and company.

Professionals carry liability insurance and have years of experience installing new doors.  They can take down an old door and install a new one on the same day saving your valuable time, energy and potential Emergency Room costs.

Many do-it-yourselfer’s fail to realize all that is involved in garage door installation.  A professional garage door company will deal with:

  • Electrical wiring & door opener operation
  • Removal  & hauling off of your old door
  • Installation of new tracks, rollers, pins and springs as required
  • Garage door spring removal and installation for the new door
  • Take precise measurements
  • Order & install the proper door at your convenience

Professional Garage Door companies can save valuable time, money and provide on the job safety most homeowners are not equipped to handle.

When you are ready to purchase a new door do your homework.  Check out Google and other online reviews of perspective garage door companies.  Check out their websites and see who they are and what they have done. Research door manufacturers/lines the company represents.

Call the company and make an appointment for them to come to your house and see what you have and take measurements.  The professional will have suggestions about what will work and won’t work with your home, or existing garage structure.  They will provide samples of doors that will work and go over colors with you.

If they do not have your door in stock they will be able to tell you when the door will be shipped and ready to install.  Don’t be afraid to ask them for referrals. If a company can’t provide testimonials it’s time to move on to another company.  Ask about door and installation warranties.

Garage door removal and new door installation is not something you want to leave to your neighbor/buddy who has done one before.  You want the job done right the first time and you want to simply pick up the phone when something is wrong with your door because your buddy may not be available.
