The Woodlands at Furman gets serious on healthy living
Named “The Biggest Loser” after the popular NBC television show, residents and staff are pledging to lose weight and get fit in 2012.
“The Biggest Loser part is just a name,” said Troy Cannaday, The Woodlands at Furman’s executive director. “The main goal is to get everyone more aware of being healthy.”
The program was the brainchild of Andrea Payment, the community’s lifestyle director. It is a way for everyone to get focused on supporting a healthier lifestyle while focusing on The Woodlands at Furman’s commitment to healthy senior living in the Upstate.
The Woodlands at Furman is a Life Care community that added Masterpiece Living, which assists visionary communities who are already leading the industry with their wellness commitment, to become places where residents and staff alike seek to better themselves.
Staff and residents will be weighed weekly until May, which is the two year anniversary of The Woodlands at Furman adding Masterpiece Living, Cannaday said.
The Woodlands at Furman is a non-profit, mission driven continuing care retirement community owned and operated by a local board of directors and managed professionally by Greystone Communities. The 22-acre campus, adjacent to Furman University, opened in March 2009 and consists of 132 apartment homes in addition to 32 assisted living apartments, 16 memory support suites and 30 skilled nursing suites.
